THE BOOK

The casting director is an intriguing figure whose centrality within the film industry is becoming ever clearer to the outside world. Yet surprisingly few – even among industry insiders – truly understand what it is exactly that casting directors do. How do the various stages of a successful casting process unfold? What difficulties are encountered? How do casting needs change from genre to genre? What are the tricks of the trade?
This book was born out of the desire to shed light on this process, with one eye focused on the need to train new casting professionals. It is simultaneously intended as an act of friendship towards actors – without whom we CDs would not exist. Therefore, the second part is dedicated to providing actors with helpful advice and useful information, ranging from the fundamentals all the way to sophisticated tips for working professionals. The aim is to help actors feel more confident about auditioning, and to strengthen our collaborative process with them.
