Oscar-nominated director Ildik\u00f3 Enyedi\u2019s film stars Palme d\u2019Or winner L\u00e9a Seydoux. Films Boutique is handling world sales rights.\n\nEnyedi\u2019s \u201cOn Body and Soul\u201d won the Golden Bear at Berlin in 2017 and was Oscar nominated the following year. Seydoux won Cannes\u2019 Palme d\u2019Or, alongside director Abdellatif Kechiche and co-star Ad\u00e8le Exarchopoulos, for \u201cBlue Is the Warmest Color\u201d in 2013.\n\nAlso in the cast are Gijs Naber (\u201cHow to Avoid Everything\u201d), Louis Garrel (\u201cRedoubtable\u201d), Josef Hader (\u201cStefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe\u201d), Sergio Rubini (\u201cThe Stuff of Dreams\u201d) and Jasmine Trinca (\u201cHoney\u201d). <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"it\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"en\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">\u201cThe Story of My Wife\u201d is an adaptation of Milan Fust\u2019s 1942 novel of the same name. The story, a variation of the legend of the Flying Dutchman, is set in the 1920s. In it sea captain Jakob Storr makes a bet in a cafe with a friend that he will marry the first woman who enters the place, and then in walks Lizzy. Fust\u2019s novel was first published in Hungary in 1942, but only translated into English in the late 1980s, when it became a literary sensation.\n\nEnyedi\u2019s first English-language feature re-teams the director with her \u201cOn Body and Soul\u201d producers Monika Mecs, Ern\u00f6 Mesterh\u00e1zy and Andr\u00e1s Muhi of Hungary\u2019s Inforg-M&amp;M Film. Berlin-based Komplizen Film, the producer of Oscar-nominated \u201cToni Erdmann,\u201d is a co-producer, alongside Italy\u2019s Palosanto Films, in association with France\u2019s Pyramide Productions. The film is supported by the Hungarian Film Institute, Italy\u2019s Ministry of Culture, Eurimages, RAI Cinema and Arte, among others.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"it\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"en\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">Speaking to Variety during the film\u2019s production, Enyedi explained why she had wanted to adapt Fust\u2019s book. \u201cAs an only child I was a bookish girl and one of the decisive moments of my teenage years was my meeting with this novel,\u201d she said. \u201cIt speaks with disarming sincerity and sometimes frightening lucidity about our human flaws and, at the same time treats its imperfect, failing heroes with immense tenderness. A rare combination.\u201d\n\nReferring to the contemporary resonances of the story, Enyedi said: \u201cThis film is a love letter to all the wonderfully imperfect men \u2013 to the loves of our life, written by a woman director. When I was a kid the male attribute I envied the most was chivalry. I would like to permit myself now to be chivalrous. I would like to add a gentle touch to the general discussion of today about communication between the sexes. I am so glad that through some longtime closed and now opened windows fresh air is pouring in, that our social habits are changing for the better.
